Heritage of Colombia


It has been commonly believed that history reshapes the identity of the nation in every aspect and in the due course, leaves behind footprints in sands of time. The rich heritage of Colombia is a true retrospective of the great historical events and incidents which gradually transformed the identity of the country in a bigger dimension.

The popular heritage sites of Colombia have been widely acknowledged for their scenic beauty and marvelous architecture. To know more on this, here's sharing with you some interesting information on this aspect as


1. Historic Centre of Santa Cruz de Mompox---

Regarded as master piece of Spanish art and culture, this historic hub of Colombia has in fact primarily been the nerve center of varied political and cultural activity since it was founded on 1540. It was established near the banks of the River Magdalena. It was during the 16th to the 19th century that the areas lying to this historical site was developed with the main street developed as dyke. The Spanish colonial styled edifices forms an inherent part of this heritage site which are still maintained by the government sponsored officials who undertake steps to preserve it in a big manner.

2. Los Katíos National Park---

Located in the north- western part of Colombia, it covers an area of 226 square miles. It is situated in the Darién Gap, between the border areas of Panama and Colombia and sharing the famous Pan-American Highway which is very near to it. Nature-lovers in large numbers throng to this place because its home to many unique animal species, some of which are on its way to being extinct. This national park was established on 6th August 1974 and in 1994 it was declared as the World Heritage Site by U.N.E.S.C.O.

3. San Agustín Archeological Park---

This architectural park is home to many ancient monumental relics, stone carvings made during the 100 A.D and 1200 A.D. There are many old architectural sculptures depicting the life of the ancient people living in this part of the world, particularly displaying their ethnicity. The scenic landscape of this historic park has also images of mythical gods and goddesses well crafted in a unique style.

4. Cartagena---

This old city of Cartagena is situated near the Caribbean Sea. This city is home to some of the best ancient forts, Andalusian-style palaces and widely decorated white cathedrals that form a significant part of its historic and cultural identity.

Thus, the rich heritage of Colombia represents the true Colombian spirit.
