The cities of Costa Rica make for great holiday destinations with their many attractions. The cities offer a beautiful mix of traditional and modern cultures. There is a whole host of tourist attractions ranging from mountains, beaches, hot springs to stylish restaurants, hotels and cafeterias. Some of the top cities of Costa Rica are-

Alajuela

The city of Alajuela is located 20 km northwest of the capital San Jose in the Central Valley. In terms of size, it is the second largest city in Costa Rica. The city has a laid back and friendly ambience which makes it a great tourist attraction. Alajuela is also a historically significant city due to its active support in the country's independence from Spain.

The city is the hometown of the country's national hero Juan Santamaria, which has added to its popularity.


San Jose

San Jose is the capital city of Costa Rica, which is situated in the heart of the Central Valley. Owing to its central location, San Jose enjoys direct access routes to all parts of the country. The city's pleasant weather conditions make it one of the most populated places of Costa Rica. The picturesque natural surroundings of San Jose attract visitors and it is also one of the major cities of Costa Rica.


Puerto Limon

The city of Limon is a beach lover's delight with pulsating surf and prehistoric rainforests. This city of Costa Rica offers tourists some of the most stunning white sand coconut tree lined beaches. This city of Costa Rica is scarcely populated with a least developed economy. There are a whole lot of activities to do and places to visit in Limon. From indulging in cultural activities, to visiting the natural hiking grounds, hotels and restaurants, Limon offers plenty.


Playa Zancudo

The city of Playa Zancudo is located around 20 km south of Golfito in the Puntarenas province. The city is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday for both surfers and families. It is a perfect getaway which is far away from the hustle and bustle of the other beaches of Costa Rica. It is often referred to as the almost virgin paradise of Costa Rica due to its untouched natural surroundings.

The other cities of Costa Rica are- Tamarindo, Puerto Quepos, Puntarenas, Liberia, Jaco, Puerto Viejo, Monteverde, Arenal, Cahuita, Heredia and Turrialba.
