Demographics of Costa Rica

According to the demographics of Costa Rica, the population of the country had been estimated to be 4,075,261 in the year 2006. In 2008, it increased to 4,133,884 people. The population of Costa Rica predominantly consists of descendents of Spanish settlers. The indigenous people of Costa Rica make up less than 2% of the total population. An interesting feature of the demographics of Costa Rica is the literacy rate, which is over 90%, making it one of the most educated societies in Central America.

The capital city of Costa Rica is San Jose which has the maximum population of the country. The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish. The Costa Rican constitution guarantees the freedom of religion to its people.
