The different cities of North Korea offer its visitor's unique glimpse of traditional North Korean culture along with its growing cosmopolitan life. Though the country has achieved rapid phase of development in the last few years, yet the common masses of North Korea still take pride in their old cultural heritage.

1. Pyongyang---

Regarded as one of the largest cities of North Korea and also the capital city of the country, Pyongyang is situated near the Taedong River. Many historians believe that the city was born out of a split from the South P'yongan province in the year 1946 and was directly under the Chikhalsi. The city was founded in 2334 BC and was well known as Wanggomsong. Since the ancient times, due to the presence of willow trees, it is widely known as Ryugyong "capital of willows", other historic names include Kisong, Hwangsong, Rangrang, Sogyong, Sodo, Hogyong while during the Japanese invasion it was known as Heijo. After the devastating Korean War, the city of Pyongyang was again re built and modeled with high class modern infrastructure facilities.

2. Manpo----

Located in the north western part of Chagang Province, Manpo was developed as a popular city during 1961. Well known for its extensive coastline areas, the city is also a popular hub of economic activities with many small scale industries set at different parts of the city.

3. Haeju---

Haeju is located in South Hwanghae Province near the Haeju Bay and is the nerve center of South Hwanghae Province. Due to its well placed strategic location it became a nerve center of Sino-Korean trade. Over the years, Haeju has developed it self into a popular hub of chemical manufacturing industries and world class cement factories. The city is also home to some of the popular tourist attraction of the place as--- Puyong Temple and Haeju Tarani Temple. While the neighboring areas of the city also houses varied natural scenic spots as Suyangsan Falls and Sokdamgugok.

4. Kaech'on---

The city of Kaech'on is situated in the South Pyongan Province of North Korea. The surrounding areas of the city have many worthwhile scenic spots; the most talked about tourist place in this part of North Korea is Paekt'apsan and important rivers as Ch'ongch'on River and the Taedong River.

5. Samjiyon----

The city has been popular as the hub of various adventure sports like hiking, skiing, camping and river rafting. The city houses modern architectural landmarks which are a class of their own. It is situated in the Ryanggang province of North Korea.
