Pakistan National Symbols

 

A national symbol of a country creates a visual, verbal, or iconic representation and presents the people of the nation as a united front with common values, goals, or history. These symbols inspire patriotism and nationalism in the people and depict the traits of the nation.

Pakistan, a very young country, born on the 14th of August, 1947 is also represented by certain symbols. Some of them are:

  • National Flag: Depicted by a green field with a crescent moon and a white strip on the hoisting side, the national flag of Pakistan was adopted from the All India Muslim League Flag and was conceived by Amiruddin Kidwai on the 11th August, 1947.

  • National Emblem: The emblem is in green with a crest, the symbols of Islam. It also depicts the agricultural base of Pakistan including cotton, wheat, tea and jute, and the national flower Jasmine. Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s motto of Iman, Ittihad and Nazm, meaning Faith, Unity, and Discipline, are engraved on a scroll at the bottom.

  • National Anthem: Pak Sarzamin, meaning “The Sacred Land” is the National Anthem. Officially adopted in August, 1954, the anthem was written by Hafeez Jullundhri and the music composed by Ahmad G. Chagla.
  • National Language: Urdu with a mixture of Arabic, Persian and other local languages is the national language. It sounds like Hindi but is in the Arabic script.
  • Father of the Nation: Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

  • Mother of the Nation: Younger sister of Jinnah, Fatima Jinnah.

  • National Masjid: The Faisal Masjid in Islamabad.

  • National Flower: Jasmine

  • National Animal: Markhor, a wild goat.
  • National Bird: Chukar, of the pheasant family.
  • National Tree: Deodar or the Himalayan Cedar.
  • National Fruit: Mango

  • National Drink: Sugar-cane juice.
