Chavin (Archaeological Site)
Chavin (Archaeological Site) was added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in the year 1985, and gave its name to the culture which development between 1500 and 300 B.C. This pilgrimage site is also one of the earliest and well-known pre-Columbian places.
This heritage site is appears remarkable, with the complex of terraces and squares, bordered by structures of dressed stone, and the zoomorphic ornamentation.
Huascaran National Park
Mount Huascarán is at an altitude of 6,768 m above sea-level, and is located in the Cordillera Blanca, which is the highest tropical mountain range in the world. This spectacular heritage site is characterized by the deep ravines watered by plentiful torrents, the glacial lakes and a variety of vegetation. It is also the sanctuary of the spectacled bear and the Andean condor.
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
Inca remains as Machu Picchu, a "lost city" discovered in 1911, are the best illustration of the culture and heritage of Peru. The historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is located 2,430 m above sea-level, amidst a tropical mountain forest. It is surrounded by lush, green, forested hills and snow-capped peaks, at a height of 8,858 feet (2,700 m). This historic site was possibly the most astounding urban creation of the Inca Empire. It encompasses numerous well-built agricultural terraces, a multitude of small stone houses, and several ceremonial temples built of carved rock.
On the eastern slopes of the Andes, the natural surroundings of Machu Picchu include the upper Amazon basin with its rich variety of flora and fauna.
