According to the demographics of Philippines, the population of the country is estimated to be 91,077,287 in the year 2008. The original inhabitants of the Philippines are called the Aeta and constitute a very small percentage of the country's total population. The vast majority of the population known as ethnic Filipinos constitutes various ethno linguistic groups descended from Austronesian-speaking migrants. Also indicated by the demographics of Philippines is that the country has two official languages- Filipino and English as well as eight major dialects. Filipino is the most widely used language while English is the language of commerce and business. The eight dialects spoken by the Filipinos are Tagalog, Ilocan, Cebuano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango and Pangasinense.

The dominant religion in the Philippines is Roman Catholicism while Islam and Buddhism make up a very small percentage of the religious affiliations of the Filipinos.

Another feature of the demographics of the Philippines is the fairly high rate of literacy among both men and women.
