Historical Background of the National Flag of Saudi Arabia---

The present day flag of Saudi Arabia has its origins in 18 th century well connected with the Wahhabi reformist movement. This movement gave rise to as-Saud family and entitled them with greater power when Abdulaziz ibn Abdulrahman as-Saud took up the charge as King of the Nejd in 1902. While the state of Hijaz used the same pattern as followed in the countries of Western Sahara and Sudan, this in fact led to lot of controversary and debates. However, on 15th March 1973, Saudi Arabia officially adopted the green flag with the ‘shahada', while at the same time made certain changes as two swords with vertical stripe at the hoist were added along with white the traditional Islamic color design imprinted on it.

Features of the National Flag of Saudi Arabia---

The flag is designed in green color with an Arabic inscription imprinted on it and a sword. Each of these symbols in the Saudi Arabian national flag has a significant meaning of its own. The Arabic inscription stands for faith in God, while the sword symbolizes the victory of Ibn Saud who was the first king of Saudi Arabia. The sword however is marked from hoist to fly position, from both sides.
